India’s automobile industry showed mixed trends in August as per SIAM data.
Passenger vehicle (PV) sales fell 8.8% year-on-year to 3.22 lakh units, compared to 3.53 lakh units last year. Meanwhile, 2-wheeler sales surged 7.1% YoY to 18.34 lakh units, driven by strong demand in scooters and motorcycles.
Scooter sales climbed 12.7% YoY to 6.83 lakh units, while motorcycle sales grew 4.3% YoY at 11.1 lakh units. Three-wheeler sales also recorded an 8.3% YoY rise, reaching 75,759 units.
On the production side, passenger vehicle output slipped 4.1% YoY to 3.61 lakh units. However, 2-wheeler output rose 10% to 22.1 lakh units and 3-wheeler output expanded 15.8% to 1.20 lakh units.
Exports offered a strong push, with total vehicle exports up 28.5% YoY at 5.57 lakh units.
