Ashok Leyland April sales down 6% YoY; M&HCV buses see 22% drop in total volumes

Ashok Leyland April vehicle sales at 13,421 units, down 6% YoY; domestic volumes slip 7%

Commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland reported a 6% year-on-year decline in total vehicle sales for April 2025, with subdued performance in its Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) segment weighing on the overall numbers.

According to the company’s filing with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE on May 2, 2025, total sales (including exports) stood at 13,421 units, compared to 14,271 units in April 2024.

Domestic Sales:

  • Total domestic sales fell 7% to 12,509 units vs 13,446 units in April 2024

  • M&HCV Trucks: 5,915 units (down 10%)

  • M&HCV Buses: 1,491 units (down 28%)

  • Total M&HCV (Domestic): 7,406 units (down 14%)

  • LCVs: 5,103 units (up 6%)

Total (Domestic + Exports):

  • M&HCV Trucks: 6,119 units (down 9%)

  • M&HCV Buses: 1,841 units (down 22%)

  • Total M&HCV: 7,960 units (down 13%)

  • LCVs: 5,461 units (up 6%)

The decline in M&HCV bus sales continues to remain a pressure point for the company, while LCV sales growth provided partial support to the overall numbers. Ashok Leyland’s management had earlier signaled a cautious demand outlook amid transitionary supply chain adjustments and market seasonality.
