Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public hearing at her residence on Tuesday morning when a man, posing as a complainant, slapped her and pulled her hair in full public view.
According to BJP leaders, the attacker — said to be in his 30s — approached the Chief Minister during the weekly Jansunwai session and suddenly assaulted her. Security personnel immediately overpowered him and handed him over for questioning by the police.
The Chief Minister was rushed to a hospital where doctors are carrying out medical examinations. Top officers of the Delhi Police have reached her residence to secure the premises.
Senior BJP leader Harish Khurana condemned the incident, stating: “One person present at the meeting attacked the Chief Minister. It should be investigated if this attack was politically motivated.”
Police are yet to disclose the name and background of the accused, but preliminary reports suggest he gained entry by presenting himself as a complainant at the session.
