Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the new UAE’s President. The 61-year-old ruler is also the Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the Federation’s seven emirates. Sheikh Mohamed succeeds his late brother, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died on May 13, 2022.
Sheikh Mohamed has been the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi since November 2004. He was named Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces in January 2005. Sheikh Mohamed was born in Al Ain on March 11, 1961. He is the third son of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father and the country’s first President. His father and mother, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, kept a close eye on him as he grew up.
Life in Army
Sheikh Mohamed was educated at schools in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi until the age of 18. While working in the military. He enrolled in the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1979. Where he received training in armor, helicopter flying, tactical flying, and paratroops.
He returned to the UAE in April 1979 after graduating to join the Officers’ Training Course in Sharjah. He has served in the UAE military in a variety of capacities, including Officer in the Amiri Guard (the UAE’s elite security force) and Pilot in the UAE Air Force, as well as Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Working for Education
Among his many interests, he is well-known for his unwavering commitment to raising educational standards in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to international standards.
Since becoming Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, Sheikh Mohamed has worked tirelessly to forge partnerships with prestigious world-class educational institutions and think-tanks. A number of which have since announced plans to either establish a base in or join strategic joint ventures with existing academic establishments, under the direction of the late Sheikh Khalifa.
Forefront at the struggle against extremism
Sheikh Mohammed has been at the forefront of the fight against Islamic extremism. Also in the United States, as a key ally for his unyielding fight against Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood. Sheikh Mohammed is also close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and has previously mediated talks between Putin and Trump. He also has a close friendship with former US President George W. Bush, which began 12 years ago at Camp David in Maryland.
Luxurious Lifestyle
When Sheikh Mohammed married Princess Salama in 1981. Also, he started the construction of a stadium that could easily accommodate 20,000 guests for the seven-day ceremony. The wedding was estimated to cost $100 million. He owns two private planes: a Boeing 747 and a Boeing 787 .
Sheikh Mohammed works out of Abu Dhabi’s presidential palace. Inside is an elegant cultural landmark known as Qasr Al Watan, which is open to the public and serves to showcase the UAE’s magnificent heritage. Foreign dignitaries are also welcomed at the palace.
Sheikh Mohamed, like many of his countrymen, enjoys a variety of sports in the UAE, and he meets with Emirati athletes on a regular basis to recognize their accomplishments.
Sheikh Mohamed has received numerous citations and decorations from the UAE, as well as Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Morocco, Malaysia, Pakistan, the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, China, South Korea, Montenegro, and Kosovo, as well as the United Nations.
