Bharatiya Janata Party’s OBC face from Maharashtra, Kapil Patil, becomes the first member of Parliament from Thane, Palghar, to get a birth in the Union Cabinet. To join the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014, the 60-year-old hailing from highway dive of Bhiwandi taluka left NCP.

Even though the Thane Lok Sabha constituency has remained as the biggest one in the country for years, none of the Bharatiya Janata Party or any other party member of the Parliament for that case had got this opportunity from the district so far.

Although stalwarts like Ram Kapse, Ram Mhalgi along with Jagannath Patil and Chintaman Wanaga were present in the Bharatiya Janata Party and the erstwhile Janasangh none got an opportunity. With the Union minister rank, Dr. Jayant Patil was a member of the planning commission.

Prominent figures in Bhausaheb Dhamanakar along with PD Jadhav of the Congress had their presence in the Bhiwandi constituency which Patil represents. They were not successful in making it to the Union cabinet even though they were members of the Parliament. Getting a ministerial role at the Centre was not possible even for the vice president of the party hailing from Thane, Rajya Sabha Member of the Parliament, Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.
