Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that he would never apologize to these “pakhandis” or hypocrites for his remark “Rashtrapatni” on the sitting Madam President.
Cabinet Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani criticised the Congress MP Adhir Ranjan ChowdhuryMP Adhi Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday, 28th July. Which was both inside and outside the parliament and demanded an apology for his “Rashtrapatni” remarks against the newly elected president, Droupadi Murmu.
Chowdhury was heard referring to the president as “Rashtrapatni” in a video clip. When asked about an apology, he responded, “there is no question of apologising”.
“You stand guilty of insulting the supreme commander of armed forces, you stand guilty of humiliating a tribal leader…The Congress party cannot stand the honour given to a tribal, it is not able to digest a poor tribal woman becoming the President of India”. Thus, Irani said in the Lok Sabha as BJP MPs protested on the floor of the House.
The Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitaraman said that “rashtrapatni” was a sexist remark. Since, the word “Rashtrapati” is a “gender agnostic” word.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal had joined in with the criticism of the Congress MP by saying. “The entire country today is upset over Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s remark on the President. Congress has been insulting tribal leaders.”
After the House proceedings were briefly adjourned, BJP continued protests and sloganeering seeking an apology from Ranjan. As well as Congress Party President, Sonia Gandhi.
Ranjan has accused the BJP of “making a mountain of a molehill”. And he will not apologise as he mistakenly used the word “rashtrapatni”.
The Congress MP clarified that he mistakenly used the word “rashtrapatni”. As he is a Bengali and he is not used to Hindi.
Hitting back at the BJP, he said that he had sought out time with the president the day after tomorrow. But he would never apologise to these “pakhandis” or hypocrites.
