Maharashtra Governor under heat for resorting to comment on “Gujaratis & Rajasthanis”

The Governor of the state of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshiyari drew criticism from the Shiv Sena and NCP over his remarks that targeted ethnical communities of India.

The Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari drew criticism from the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party. Further, after he said that Mumbai will eventually run out of money and no longer be India’s financial capital if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed.

“I tell people here that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from Maharashtra. Especially Mumbai and Thane, you will have no money and Mumbai will not be a financial capital”. Said Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari at an event in Mumbai.

Maharashtra Governor faces backlash

This event was an inauguration and the naming ceremony of a chowk in Andheri. Also, MP Navneet Rana and MLAs Ravi Rana, Amit Satam, Nilesh Rane, Bharati Lavekar and others were present at the event.

A press released by the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai stated that Maharashtra Governor Koshiyari complemented the Gujarati and Rajasthani communities. Thus, for their contribution in making Mumbai the financial capital of India.

Moreover, NCP leader Supriya Sule said the comment is an insult to martyrs. “This statement of the Governor is insulting to those martyrs. This city was built by labourers, labourers and labourers. All of them have the first right to Mumbai. This is ‘Aamchi Mumbai’ for all who are born on this soil and love Mumbai,” she tweeted.

The Congress State Spokesperson Amit Londhe. Also slammed the Governor for his remarks by saying that they smack of his hatred for the state and demanded an apology.

Rajya Sabha MP and Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said the governor must apologize. Or they will demand his transfer. “This is an insult to the people of Maharashtra and the hard work of the Marathi people. Who are working round the clock to make the state the leading state in the country”. Hence, she wrote on Twitter.

Shiv Sena’s Spokesperson and MLC, Manish Kayande said that the governor from Uttarakhand had caused many difficulties in the state for the government which prevented them from working.  She also said this shows his hatred for the state and love for his party, the BJP.

“Marathi people wake up! It will not take long to go to Mumbai Gujarat. Public protest of the hateful governor of Maharashtra!” she added.
