
Droupadi Murmu is now the 15th President of the Republic of India, the 1st tribal and 2nd female to hold office. Celebrations broke out in Odisha’s Jasuapur village in Pipili as NDA’s Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu was elected as Head of State. BJP leader Sambit Patra danced with the locals to mark the victory of National Democratic Alliance candidate Droupadi Murmu. The celebrations are going on since morning as Murmu’s victory had long been anticipated. BJP leaders distributed sweets and gifted sarees among the tribals to showcase their happiness with the results. There is an atmosphere of galore in the village and across the country.
Celebrations are in full swing in Madam President Droupadi Murmu’s hometown, Odisha. Further, local BJP members are distributing sweets and are seen enjoying the tribal dances. The entire country is celebrating and congratulating the Madam President.
Murmu, 64, is the 1st Adivasi and 2nd woman to become the nation’s First Citizen and the Supreme Commander of India’s Armed Forces. Hence, she was elected to two terms in the Odisha Assembly in 2000 and 2004. And served as a Minister from 2000 to 2004 in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s BJD-BJP coalition government. She was sworn in as the first woman Governor of Jharkhand in 2015.
NDA nominee Droupadi Murmu was headed against joint Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.
Droupadi Murmu will be formally sworn in as the President on Monday. Moreover, she has become the second female President of India after Pratibha Patil. Murmu’s opponent Yashwant Sinha conceded his defeat before she was declared a winner. However, Yashwant Sinha congratulated Murmu on being elected as the 15th President of India.
