Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to declare the outcome of ‘Swachh Survekshan 2020’ today, said Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. This is going to be the fifth edition of annual cleanliness survey of the country which was delayed due to the pandemic.
The survey was completed in 28 days, Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (I/C), MoHUA Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, MoHUA will be participating in the event along with various Mayors, State Mission Directors, Municipal Commissioners and other stakeholders in the area of urban sanitation and waste management.

Five things to know about the scheme annual cleanliness survey Swachh Survekshan:
- There was almost 1.87 crore of participants in the survey of 4,242 cities, 62 cantonment boards and 92 towns along the river Ganga, said Rajeev Jatin Spokesperson of Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.
- 129 awards will be given to the top performer cities and states at the “Swachh Mahosav” event.
- There will be interactive session with the selected beneficiaries of Swachh Bharat Mission- Urban–‘swachhagrahis'(people adopting cleanliness by building toilet at their homes) and ‘safaikarmis'(sanitation workers) from different parts of the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing.
- On this occasion PM Modi will launch dashboard of ‘Swachh Survekshan 2020’ results.
In the first edition of the survey Mysuru won the award for the cleanest city whereas Indore has retained its position for three consecutive years (2017, 2018, 2019).
The programme of Swachh Survekshan was introduced by the government with an aim of involvement of large number of citizen in the mission, along with inculcating a spirit of healthy competition among cities toward becoming India’s cleanest cities.
