As of February 27, 2021, a total of 72 dead bodies and 30 parts of human bodies have been recovered as a result of the rescue and recovery operation that is currently underway in the Chamoli Area of Uttarakhand after a major glacier ruptured causing flash floods which have led to severe loss of life and resources.
ANI today reported that out of this recovery count, a total of 40 bodies and only 1 body part have been identified while the actual number of Missing Person Reports at the Joshimath Police Station is 205.
The identification, according to The Hindu, is being done at forensic labs in Dehradun where all the recovered body parts have been sent along with 110 different samples of DNA material obtained from the family members of the missing persons.
It has now been 20 days since the glacier in Dhauli Ganga Valley broke which resulted in flash floods across the river banks of Ganga and caused possibly irreparable damage to a dam under the Tapovan Power Project and to the Rishi Ganga Hydroelectric Power Project on which several laborers were on duty, most of whom are either dead or missing.
Several teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been stationed since in the affected areas which have been put on alert while the rescue operation continues in the areas that suffered direct damage.
