In recent times, we have seen tech moguls take a stand depending upon the social or political climate. After the murder of George Floyd, several prominent people including Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook took a stand against racial discrimination.
Amazon CEO and founder, Jeff Bezos has taken his support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement a notch higher. The American entrepreneur has made it clear with his latest Instagram post that he is not afraid of losing customers who don’t support #BlackLivesMatter movement.
Bezos took to Instagram to share the screenshot of an e-mail he received from one of the Amazon users, who was angry about the ‘Black Lives Matter’ banner being displayed on Amazon’s homepage. The customer said that it was ‘quite disturbing’ to see it on Amazon’s website.
The e-mail read, “I’m sure you’ll be hearing from others, ALL LIVES MATTER,’ read the e-mail sent by a person named Macy whose last name was redacted. And if it wasn’t for all these lives providing their service to you and your company, where would Amazon be today?’ Check out his post on Instagram:- https://www.instagram.com/p/CBEcwTgneUY/?utm_source=ig_embed
In an Instagram carousel, Bezos shared his response to the mail, where he made it clear that his stance won’t change. “‘Black Lives Matter’ doesn’t mean other lives don’t matter,’ wrote Bezos.
Following this, his inbox was flooded with e-mails opposing his stance. He wrote, “There have been a number of sickening but not surprising responses in my inbox since my last post. This sort of hate shouldn’t be allowed to hide in the shadows. It’s important to make it visible.”
While addressing the man who wrote to him, he said, “And, Dave, you’re the kind of customer I’m happy to lose.” Amazon has also announced plans to donate $10 million to organisations supporting justice and equity, including the NAACP and the National Urban League.
