119 Padma awardees have been recognised for their distinguished service in the fields of arts, sports, social work, public affairs and literature etc.
The Padma Awards namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri are among the highest civilian awards in India, given for excellence in disciplines such as art, social work, public affairs, sports, etc. One of the highest civilian awards, the Padma awards are conferred every year by the President since 1954. The list was released by Ministry Of Home Affairs and the current President, Ram Nath Kovind approved conferment of 119 Padma Awards including 1 duo case (in a duo case, the award is counted as one).
Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and veteran musician SP Balasubrahmanyam are among the list of the awardees. The list comprises of seven Padma Vibhushan, ten Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards.
Some Padma Vibhushan awardees include Dr Belle Monappa Hegde in medicine, Narinder Singh Kapany in Science and Engineering (posthumous), Maulana Wahiduddin Khan in spiritualism, BB Lal in archaeology, and Sudarshan Sahoo in art.
The Padma Shri has been awarded to 102 people this year, including names such as Gulfam Ahmed in art, P. Anitha in sports and Rama Swamy Annavarapu in art.
