The function was organized in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan, where the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind bestowed upon 35 sportspersons some of the highest sporting honors.
Thakur gave a speech in which he highlighted the importance of recognin sing the efforts of athletes saying, “The national sports award is a prestigious award that is won by athletes after years of dedication and hard work."
This year a total of 72 names has been recommended of which 11 are for Khel Ratna while 35 are for Arjuna Award.
