This week, India and France will start discussions to finalize a Rs 50,000 crore deal for 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets. The Indian government has already approved the purchase of these jets from France to equip the indigenously built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, according to The Economic Times.
Following Exercise Milan, Admiral R Hari Kumar announced impending Indian Navy operations involving both aircraft carriers, INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya, off the West coast. Increased naval operations is highlighted by anti-drone and anti-piracy measures. Approval of the C295 aircraft reflects the dedication to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and represents an advancement in aerial surveillance capabilities.
The carrier was built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) in Kochi with BEL, BHEL, GRSE, Kirloskar L &T and joint efforts of 100 MSMEs. The keel was laid down in 2009 and was launched in 2013.
According to news agency ANI, the occasion was attended by luminaries including Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
