Social media is abuzz with claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a special national address at 8 PM tonight amid the West Asia conflict. This is not accurate. No such televised address to the nation has been scheduled or confirmed by official government sources.
What Is Actually Happening?
PM Modi is holding an interaction with Chief Ministers this evening via video conferencing to review state-level preparedness amid the ongoing West Asia conflict closed-door governmental meeting, not a public national address.
The discussions are focused on coordinated action and “Team India” synergy between the Centre and state governments. However, Chief Ministers of poll-bound states Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry will not be attending, as the Model Code of Conduct applies to them.
This meeting follows an all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on March 25, where the government briefed leaders on India’s response to the West Asia crisis and its impact on trade routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz.
Bottom Line
A CM-level video conference on national preparedness is not a prime-time address to the nation. Citizens are advised to rely only on verified government sources.
