In Kerala’s hilly Wayanad and neighbouring Malappuram districts, horrific reports of deaths and destruction are surfacing following several severe landslides and flash floods that, according to reports, destroyed at least three villages. As per CNN 43 dead so far.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke with Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi regarding the rescue and relief efforts being carried out by Army forces in Kerala’s landslide-hit Wayanad.
Officials stated the defence minister talked about the entire situation with the Army chief.
According to an Army official, the Army received a request this morning for assistance to assist civil authorities.
According to the Defence PRO, the rescue operation has begun and a team led by the Second-in-Command has mobilized to help with ongoing operations. The team also includes a Medical Officer, two JCOs and forty soldiers.
