Security agencies may have averted a major tragedy after Jammu & Kashmir Police recovered nearly 300 kg of RDX, an AK-47 rifle, and ammunition from a residence in Faridabad, based on disclosures made by an arrested doctor, Dr. Aadil Ahmad Rather, according to multiple reports including India Today.
The investigation so far
Dr. Rather, a resident of Kulgam, was arrested from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, as part of a J&K Police operation. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to smuggling the explosives and revealed that they were meant to be transported further for a planned strike in the Delhi–NCR region.
The police, accompanied by intelligence units and NCR law enforcement, conducted coordinated raids in Faridabad and Anantnag. During the raids, an AK-47 rifle and ammunition were recovered from a locker linked to Rather in Anantnag, along with medical documents and alleged terror-related material.
India Today report
According to India Today, the recovery of such a massive quantity of RDX suggests that the explosives were being prepared for a large-scale terror operation. Investigators are probing whether the recovered materials were part of a wider network aimed at attacking multiple locations across Delhi and adjoining regions.
What the police say
Senior officers have stated that the investigation is ongoing and cross-border links are being examined. Another suspect, Dr. Muzzamil Shakeel, is also being questioned for alleged involvement in smuggling and storage.
The operation is being seen as one of the biggest anti-terror breakthroughs near the national capital in recent years, with agencies now verifying if any sleeper cells were activated to facilitate movement of arms and explosives into Haryana.
Current status
Authorities have tightened security in Delhi–NCR and major cities, while forensic teams are examining the explosive material to determine its origin. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been briefed and a multi-agency task force has been constituted for follow-up actions.
