On the evening of April 8, it was reported that a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had been damaged at Kanniyakumari. The police said that they had opened an investigation into the matter.

On the morning of April 9, the locals who had seen the monument being damaged called the police to report the incident. As the statue is being shielded from view by a cloth, the police have opened an inquiry into the matter.

On Sunday, the Superintendent of Police in Kanniyakumari, Hari Kiran Prasad, said, “We don’t know if it’s vandalized or not. It is in a very discreet location. There was some little damage done to the statue. We have established teams, and we will need to investigate every possible avenue. We have opened a case on your behalf.”

The Sergeant of Police continued by saying, “We have organized a squad to find out if there are miscreants engaged in the event or precisely what transpired.” People are reminded on a regular basis to get surveillance cameras and enough lighting. Our team is conducting further inquiries into the subject.

Officials with the police have said that an investigation is now taking place and that a case number has been assigned to this matter.

Many demonstrators have taken their cause to the streets and have congregated in the Kanniyakumari district to voice their demand for the arrest of the criminals responsible for defacing the monument of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Vattavvillai.

At this time, more security has been added to the region in order to keep law and order intact. More inquiry is ongoing.
