Lucknow, April 2: Government departments of Uttar Pradesh have set a record in the country by making procurements of more than Rs 20,642 crore in the last five years through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office. A record Rs 11,228 crore procurement was made in the last financial year. Which is 143 percent more than the previous fiscal. Of this, 60 percent of the purchases were made from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) units. In a bid to check corruption and ensure transparency. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in his previous term had made it mandatory for the government to procure goods. And services through GeM portal.

Due to his preference for quality, transparency and austerity in departmental procurements UP is number one in the country with a purchase of more than Rs 20,642 crore in the last five years, whereas with procurements of Rs 7,000 crore Gujarat is placed at number two position and Madhya Pradesh is at number three with procurements of Rs 5,000 crore.

More than 14 thousand government departments are registered on the GeM portal. And there are more than three lakh 31 thousand sellers. It also includes a large number of micro and small entrepreneurs. More than three lakh people have got direct and indirect employment from these industries. Additional Chief Secretary MSME Dr. Navneet Sehgal informed that the state has come first for the third time in maximum government procurement from GeM portal. Earlier, the central government had felicitated the state with ‘Best Buyer Award’ in 2018. And ‘Super Buyer Award’ in 2019, he said.

Various departments of the state government have set a record year after year in government procurement from the GeM portal. This process started with the purchase of Rs 602 crore in the financial year 2017-18. This was followed by government procurement of Rs 1,692 crore in the financial year 2018-19. And Rs 2,443 crore in the financial year 2019-20. A total of Rs 4,611 crore was purchased in the financial year 2020-21. Which increased to a record level of Rs 11,228 crore in the current financial year 2021-22.
