Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced the approval of new standards for bus body construction in India. The move comes in response to the increasing number of bus accidents across the country.

In a recent tweet, Gadkari stated, “In the wake of the rising number of bus accidents, there is a pressing need to enhance the quality of bus body construction in Bharat. I have now approved standards for the construction of bus bodies, which shall be uniformly applicable to both OEMs and bus body builders.” The new standards are expected to significantly improve the quality of buses in India. The primary focus will be on ensuring passenger safety during contingency situations.“This step will pave the way for further improvements in the quality of buses in India,” Gadkari added.

The Ministry is publishing a draft notification for these standards to solicit suggestions from all stakeholders. The Union Minister expressed hope that all stakeholders will support this initiative to ensure the safety of all bus occupants. This move is seen as a significant step towards enhancing road safety in India. It is expected that the implementation of these new standards will lead to a reduction in the number of bus accidents and improve passenger safety.
