US President Donald Trump has launched a fresh attack on India, calling the trade relationship between the two countries a “totally one-sided disaster.” In his latest post on X, Trump claimed that while India exports massive amounts of goods to the United States, American businesses face severe barriers due to India’s high tariffs.

Trump wrote, “They sell us massive amounts of goods, their biggest client, but we sell them very little — until now a totally one-sided relationship. It has been that way for decades.” He further alleged that India has imposed the highest tariffs of any country, leaving US businesses unable to compete in the Indian market.

The remarks come shortly after Washington imposed 50% tariffs on Indian exports, citing India’s continued imports of Russian oil. However, reports suggest the move also followed New Delhi’s refusal to call Trump the “peacemaker” during its conflict with Pakistan.

Modi-Xi meeting adds to global optics

Trump’s statements coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin. A Beijing-based commentator described the encounter as a “moment of optics” — signaling that India, despite US pressure, is keeping its diplomatic options open.

The latest remarks further highlight Trump’s aggressive trade posture, which is likely to shape the future of India-US ties in the months ahead.
