Tripura CPI(M) complaints against 3 policemen for reliving BJP workers from a murder charge

While demanding a fresh investigation into the hacking of 65 -yrs old CPI(M) worker Shahid Mia at Charilam Market of Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district two months ago in broad daylight allegedly by BJP cadres, CPI(M) Tripura Secretary Jitendra Choudhury sought ECI action against three police officers for deleting section 302 from the charge sheet.

Choudhury in a letter to CEO Kiran Gitte alleged that Additional SP of Sepahijala district Ranadhir Debbarma, SDPO Bishalgarh Rahul Das, and Bishalgarh Police Station OC Badal Saha have tampered with the investigation with the direction of a top BJP leader.

“Pratik Koshore Dev Barman, the son of Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma happened to be the close friend of SDPO Rahul Das has influenced the investigation and all three accused police officers were found openly working for BJP. They implicated false cases with fabricated charges against Congress and CPI(M) workers in Bishalgarh, which flouted the ECI promise to ensure a level playing field for all the parties,” Dev Varma alleged.

He mentioned that there has been a series of allegations against these officers raised by the opposition parties and common people. Even several media reports have also exposed their direct link with BJP party. The matter was brought to the notice of ECI during their visit to Tripura but no

has so far been taken against them.

“Because of police inaction in Sepahijala district, on Sunday night BJP cadres ransacked a number

of houses of CPI(M) supporters and left at least 15 party supporters injured in Nalchar assembly constituency. Police are not taking any steps to curve the violence in Sepahijala district. The BJP cadres across the district were triggering terror and doing violent acts to breach the peach to hold

fair and free elections,” Choudhury said.

Seeking an immediate removal of the accused officers, Choudhury alleged in the letter that all three policemen have clandestine links with BJP and in connivance with local BJP leaders. They intentionally omitted Section 302 (murder charge) in the charge sheet of the Shahid Mia murder case which was made without any serious investigation.

According to him, because of the weak police report all the accused in this murder case got bail from the court on Monday. Not a single FIR named the principal accused was in police custody for a single day because of the mischievous actions of the accused policemen.

Choudhury also apprehended that if the election commission had not removed them from the duty, they will continue such mischievous activities during the elections and their present place of posting and assignment would not ensure a free fair, and peaceful election in the Sepahijala district.

Besides, removing the police officials, ECI ensure that they must not be assigned to any kind of election duty, and urgently initiate Departmental Proceedings against them for conniving with

political leaders of the ruling party for shielding the murder accused, the letter added.
