January 26, 2021: Yesterday, after talks with farmers’ union leaders, the protestors had been given permission by the Delhi Police to hold the tractor parade on the Outer Ring Road in Delhi.
Perhaps breaching this agreement, the farmers protesting the three controversial farm laws clashed with police at several different locations as they entered the Red Fort and the ITO.
The farmers had been camping at various locations on the outskirts of Delhi at Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur for several weeks now. Clashes were reported at the Singhu and Tikri Borders as farmers broke barricades. Tear shells were fired at the protestors around 10 am as the protestors reached Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar.
About 30 minutes after that a video showing farmers damaging DTC buses near Akshardham Intersection appeared on the Internet.
At 11 am, several more tear gas shells are fired and a mid-lathi charge is started. Farmers were reportedly seen fighting the police with swords. With the first breach of their agreement, the farmers started drifting away from the route that was assigned to them and move towards Sarai Kale Khan.
From 12 pm, a few more incidents of violence from both sides were reported where farmers chased away police personnel at ITO which were trying to stop them from reaching Red Fort.
A farmer died after his tractor upturned which the farmers are now claiming to be untrue and saying that he was shot dead.
