Telangana per capita power consumption is 70 pc more than national average


Telangana’s per capita power consumption has increased from 1200 units in 2014-15 to as high as 2126 units in 2021-22, which is 70 per cent more than the national average of 1255 units, said TSGENCO and TSTRANSCO Chairman and Managing Director D.Prabhakar Rao here on Thursday.

Addressing after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of the 74th Republic here, Prabhakar said that the government has introduced several public welfare programmes. Power sector plays a pivotal role in successful implementation of all these schemes.

The present contracted capacity (18,453MW) is more than the double that was on the date of formation of Telangana State (7,778MW, he said that 8,085 MW projects are under various stages of development to meet the growing loads of lift irrigation, industrial and other categories.

In an endeavour to become self-sufficient on power front, all four units of Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (4x270MW) were commissioned and the works at 5x800MW Yadadri Thermal Power Station are expedited and all five units will be commissioned in full shape by end of next year.

Transmission and distribution network is strengthened and augmented with an investment of Rs.38,070 Crores, he said Telangana has become the first state to provide 24-hours free power supply to the agriculture sector having a huge base of around 28.0 lakhs agricultural connections.

As per the directions of Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao to maintain uninterrupted power supply to twin cities, the 400 KV Ring System has been established around GHMC area by erecting 142 Circuit Kilometers (CKM) of 400KV lines interlinking 6Nos of 400kV substations and constructing 8Nos. of 220KV substations around the city, he said..
