Partha Chatterjee, a West Bengal cabinet minister and former Education Minister was detained at his Kolkata home. By an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in connection with the SSC recruitment scam. Today, he will be taken to Bankshall Court in Kolkata for the court hearing.

SSC Recruitment Scam

The Enforcement Directorate said, in connection with the Staff Selection Commission recruitment scam it has seized approximately Rs 20 crores. From Arpita Mukherjee, who is allegedly a close aide to former West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee. The aforementioned sum is presumed to be the revenues of the SSC Scam.

Additionally, they stated that Arpita Mukherjee’s home had been raided for paperwork. Moreover, relating to roughly 10 properties as well as jewelry made of gold and diamonds valued at about Rs 50 lakh.

Arpita Mukherjee is also likely to be produced before the court after she is arrested.

The Mamata Banerjee led-Trinamool Congress minister, Partha Chatterjee had been interrogated for 11 hours. Moreover, after the agency recovered cash worth 20 crores from the residential premises of Arpita Mukherjee.

The West Bengal Teacher SSC Recruitment Scam

The government conducted State Level Selection Test (SLST) in 2014. And issued a notification for the appointment of the teachers in the state-run schools.  The recruitment process started in 2016. However, a number of petitions regarding alleged irregularities in the hiring process were submitted to the Calcutta High Court. Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee was the state education minister from 2014 to 2021, around the time when the scam also took place.
