A major road accident was reported late Thursday night in Kolkata’s Bidhannagar area after a speeding car allegedly driven under the influence of alcohol lost control and rammed into a road divider.
The incident occurred between 11 pm and 11.15 pm while the vehicle was travelling from Tank No. 7 towards Baishakhi Abasan. According to eyewitnesses, the car hit the divider at high speed and veered into the opposite lane, triggering panic among residents in the area.
Locals immediately alerted the police following the crash. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
There were three occupants in the vehicle, including the driver. All three sustained injuries and were rushed to the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, where they were administered first aid. Police officials said the injured persons are stable and are currently undergoing treatment.
Personnel from the Bidhannagar East Police Station reached the spot soon after being informed and seized the damaged vehicle. An investigation has been initiated, and action is being taken against the driver under relevant sections, including those related to drunk driving. Police have once again urged motorists to strictly follow traffic rules and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
