Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been reportedly discharged from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi after being admitted for stomach-related issues. She was under the care of Dr. Samiran Nundy, a specialist in gastroenterology. According to hospital sources, she is currently stable and remains under medical observation.
Gandhi, who turned 78 in December 2024, was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after experiencing discomfort. However, doctors have ruled out any major health concerns and confirmed that she is recovering well. Following a brief period of medical care, she has now been discharged.
Her last major public appearance was on February 13, when she attended the Rajya Sabha during the Budget session of Parliament. Earlier this month, on February 10, she had urged the government to expedite the population census, stating that around 14 crore people in the country are missing out on benefits from the food security law.
In her first speech during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Sonia Gandhi highlighted that the National Food Security Act (NFSA) continues to use 2011 Census data to identify beneficiaries instead of the most recent population figures. She emphasized that the NFSA, introduced by the UPA government in September 2013, was a major step toward ensuring food and nutrition security for India’s 140 crore people.
Despite her health challenges, Sonia Gandhi remains actively engaged in political affairs, making public statements and participating in key discussions. Her role within the Congress party continues to be significant as she contributes to important national debates and policy discussions.
