Sikkimese Issue: JAC appeals for silent protest on April 10

The Jac known as the Joint Action Council members have appealed to the public to join them in the silent protest against the Finance Act on the Sikkimese issue.

Gangtok, Apr 9: Joint Action Council members have appealed to the public to join the silent protest against the Finance Act on the Sikkimese issue.

“All Sikkimese should ponder over the issue of FA and if they find it appropriate they are requested to stay indoors on April 10 symbolically, protesting the Act. The Finance Act should be annulled,” said Duk Nath Nepal Vice President, Joint Action Council formed for the purpose after Judgement of Apex Court on Income Tax exemption judgement, wherein the Nepali Sikkim Subject Indian Citizens were purportedly referred to as foreigners.

Other member of the JAC, Passang G Sherpa, described the Finance Act as a seriously adverse document for ethnic Sikkimese.

“On Monday State Assembly session will be held for discussing the FA. Legislators are requested to pass a resolution rejecting the Act in question. All the political parties, students, employees should join the symbolic protest, if FA (the part relating to Sikkim), is not rejected at this point it will make our future dark. Now only ‘Ghar Bhitra Ek Din,’ has to be taken up.Next step would be decided after the decision in Assembly,scheduled for Monday,’ said Passang Sherpa.

However the members of JAC highlighted the violence in Singtam and the visible impact.They have requested the Governor to assure the safety and security of public here.
