Vice President of India and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Venkaiah Naidu made and the announcement of Wednesday saying that all MPs must strictly adhere to COVID-19 rules and wear masks at all times, even when they are addressing the house.
As the number of cases of the coronavirus keeps spiking the Members of Parliament are under strict instructions to follow the sanitation rules to avoid any further spread of the virus.
Right now, the Indian Parliament is in meeting for its Monsoon Session and in line with the social distancing norms the houses are functioning in shifts. The Rajya Sabha is in session from 9 am to 1 pm while the Lok Sabha is in session from 3 pm to 7 pm.
Between the sessions, the entire house is sanitized to ensure the safety of the MPs.
Today, in the Rajya Sabha, Shri Venkaiah Naidu asked the MPs to wear their masks at all times after Samajwadi Samajwadi Party MP Gopal Yadav tried to remove his mask. To this, the Vice Presiden and Chairman said, “Wearing a mask and speaking, and wearing a mask and continuously sitting, there is some discomfiture… I personally spoke to Director General of the ICMR, he told me it is better to keep the mask on since this hall is air-conditioned… Their initial suggestion was to wear a mask while talking to a person. Now, the advice is to always wear a mask. It may change later.”
