Schools to reopen in Uttar Pradesh with 50% attendance from August 16

On Sunday, the state reported 36 new COVID-19 infections with no fatality.

On August 2, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government issued an order announcing that intermediate schools will reopen in the state from August 16 with a capacity of 50 per cent. According to news agency ANI, schools and universities are set to reopen from September 1, 2021.

The announcement came after CM Yogi Adityanath’s meeting at Lok Sabha Bhavan regarding the matter.

Furthermore, the government has provided instructions for the process of university entrance examinations starting August 5, 2021.

The intermediate schools will be reopened with strict COVID-19 protocols. Students are required to wear masks while maintaining physical distancing. A written consent letter signed by the parents of students is needed to be given to schools without which admission would not be granted.

States including Punjab, Chattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have also announced the reopening of schools from August 2, 2021. However, in these states, educational institutions will be allowed to operate either completely or in a phased manner for certain classes.

On August 1, a total of 36 new coronavirus cases were recorded by UP, increasing its total count to 17,08,476 while 2.84 lakh samples were tested. An official government in a statement informed that it had reported zero death and that 76 individuals had recovered from the virus.

The total tally of current active infections in the state stands at 664.
