SC suggests 9 names including 3 women for elevation as judge

The 3 woman judges to be recommended are Justice BV Nagarathna of Karnataka High Court, Justice Hima Kohli, Chief Justice of Telangana High court and Justice Bela Trivedi of Gujarat High Court.

Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana Chief Justice of India who heads the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended 3 names for the position of judges for the government to appoint at the top court, who are women.

The 3 woman judges to be recommended are Justice BV Nagarathna of Karnataka High Court, Justice Hima Kohli, Chief Justice of Telangana High court and Justice Bela Trivedi of Gujarat High Court.

If the recommendations are considered then BV Nagarathna will be moved to Apex court as a judge becoming India’s first women Chief Justice in 2027.

The Supreme Court Collegium consists of 5 senior-most judges led by Chief Justice. Justices Umesh Lalit, AM Khanwilkar, Dr Dhananjay Y Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao.

As of now, Supreme Court lacks 9 judges as many judges retired in the last two years, the most recent one being Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman.
