Samyukta Kisan Morcha will hold a ‘Mahapanchayat’ in Haryana on January 26

On this day, the farmers will also deliver memorandums to the relevant officials in favour of their demands.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organisation for all farmer unions, will convene a ‘kisan mahapanchayat’ in Haryana’s Jind on January 26, according to news agency PTI.

According to a statement issued by the organisation on Saturday, SKM leaders made the decision during a meeting in Karnal. Several farmer leaders attended the conference, including Rakesh Tikait, Darshan Pal, and Joginder Singh Ugrahan.

The northern states’ mahapanchayat will be held in Jind on January 26, according to Pal.

“The meeting unanimously decided to observe the Republic Day and hold tractor rallies and conventions after hoisting the national flag without obstructing official government programmes,” according to a SKM statement.

The farmer body will also “expose the conspiracy” of the BJP administration to break its unity on January 26, according to the statement.

According to Pal, January 26 will be designated as Unity Day.

On this day, the farmers will also deliver memorandums to the relevant officials in favour of their demands.

Notably, a ‘kisan rally’ would be organised in Delhi in March, with the date to be announced on January 26 at Jind, according to SKM.

It should be noted that the SKM, which spearheaded a protest against the now-repealed three farm laws, has been demanding legal guarantees to minimum support price, withdrawal of cases against farmers, debt waiver, and the dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and withdrawal of the Electricity Bill.

The SKM leaders also voiced support with the ongoing protest in Ferozepur, Punjab, against a distillery and ethanol factory.

Over the last five months, villagers have staged a demonstration in front of the distillery, demanding that it be shut down because it is reportedly poisoning underground water in many communities as well as generating air pollution.
