As Mumbai braces for another day of intense rainfall under a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Mumbai Police Commissioner has appealed to the private sector to support employees by allowing work from home arrangements wherever possible.
“Good Morning Mumbai. Hope you are adhering to the safety guidelines in wake of the heavy showers expected today. Please take care, step out only if necessary, prevent going near the shore during high tide and don’t forget, you will find us around the corner for help, in case of any emergency,” the commissioner said in a public advisory.

The appeal comes on the back of widespread waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and risks along coastal belts, with civic authorities also declaring a holiday for government offices (excluding emergency services) and schools.
The police have reinforced safety measures across vulnerable zones and deployed additional personnel to manage traffic bottlenecks and ensure public safety. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from visiting beaches during high tide, and closely monitor BMC and IMD alerts.
Authorities have warned that rainfall intensity could exceed 15 mm per hour, with gusty winds and thunderstorms predicted through the day. Disaster response teams are on standby as parts of Borivali, Thane, Kalyan, Powai, Santa Cruz, and Navi Mumbai continue to reel under flooding.
“We request maximum cooperation from private offices in enabling flexible working arrangements to reduce congestion on city roads and safeguard employees,” the commissioner emphasized.
