In a significant development, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Marketing Head Nikhil Sosale was arrested on Friday at the Bengaluru Airport in connection with the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede incident. According to India Today, Sosale was en route to Mumbai when authorities apprehended him.
The arrest follows a First Information Report (FIR) filed on Thursday against RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and event management company DNA Entertainment. The FIR comes in the wake of a tragic stampede that occurred during RCB’s victory celebrations at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
On Thursday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the immediate arrest of representatives from RCB, DNA Entertainment, and KSCA following the registration of the FIR. The case has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 105, which relates to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
In a sweeping move, the Chief Minister also suspended Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, along with several senior police officials, for alleged negligence and failure to ensure proper crowd control during the event.
