All eyes are on RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra as the Reserve Bank of India is set to announce its first bi-monthly Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decision for FY26 on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The announcement will come amid mounting global uncertainty, triggered in part by U.S. President Donald Trump’s 26% import tariff on Indian goods, which is expected to dent India’s GDP growth by 20–40 basis points in FY26.
The six-member MPC, led by Governor Malhotra, is widely expected to announce a 25-basis-point cut in the repo rate to support growth as global trade tensions rise. In addition to the interest rate decision, the RBI will also share its outlook on CPI inflation, economic growth projections, and the overall macroeconomic scenario.
