Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed strong disapproval of Trinamool Congress’s suspended MP Kalyan Banerjee for mocking him during a protest on Parliament premises, deeming the mimicry as “ridiculous” and “unacceptable.”

Banerjee, alongside other suspended MPs, engaged in the protest at Parliament’s Makar Dwar, where he mimicked the Vice President. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was observed filming the Trinamool Congress MP using his mobile phone during the demonstration.

Addressing the incident as the House reconvened, Dhankhar highlighted the inappropriateness of such actions. “Political parties will have their cross currents, they will have exchanges, but imagine a senior leader of your party, video graphing another member of another party. Mimicry of the Chairman, mimicry of Speaker. How ridiculous, how shameful, how unacceptable,” he stated, later adjourning the House until 2 pm.

Simultaneously, 49 Lok Sabha MPs faced suspension for disrupting proceedings, following the suspension of 78 opposition members a day earlier.

The suspended MPs, including leaders like Farooq Abdullah, Shashi Tharoor, and Manish Tewari, demanded a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the security breach in Parliament on December 13.

In response, the suspended MPs from various parties, collectively known as the INDIA bloc, staged protests in multiple locations on Parliament premises, including in front of the Gandhi statue and at Makar Dwar. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi joined the demonstration, where slogans against the Centre were raised in protest against the government’s actions.
