The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF), a non-governmental organisation connected to the Gandhi family, has had its licence under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) revoked by the Centre for alleged legal infractions, according to officials, as quoted by the news agency PTI.
This is the result of inquiries made by an interministerial committee that the home ministry set up in 2020. An official was quoted by PTI as saying, “Yes, the FCRA licence of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has been cancelled after a probe into it.”
The head of RGF is Sonia Gandhi, a former president of the Congress. Along with Congressman Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former finance minister P. Chidambaram, and others serve as trustees for the NGO.
In 1991, RGF was founded. From 1991 to 2009, this non-profit organisation focused on a variety of important issues, such as those relating to science, technology, women’s and children’s issues, disability support, etc. According to its website, it also operated in the field of education.
