Multiple regions across Punjab, including Amritsar, Pathankot, and Hoshiarpur, were placed under red alert on Monday evening following reports of drone activity near key military installations, triggering emergency blackouts and a high-security response.
In Amritsar, the district administration issued an urgent advisory at around 8 PM, asking residents to switch off lights and remain indoors as a precaution. Simultaneously, an IndiGo flight (6E2045) bound for Amritsar from Delhi was forced to turn back mid-air, as flight tracking data confirmed a sharp return to Delhi just minutes before its scheduled landing.
In Hoshiarpur’s Dasuya area, locals reported hearing 7–8 explosions, suspected to be Indian security forces intercepting drones in real time. The Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur confirmed drone sightings and assured the public that the situation was under control, stating:
“Please avoid moving outside unless necessary. Stay calm and alert. Schools will remain open tomorrow.”
Pathankot, another sensitive region near the international border, also reported drone activity, prompting further vigilance from armed forces. This follows earlier confirmed sightings in Samba (Jammu & Kashmir), indicating a coordinated aerial incursion attempt from across the border.
The heightened security posture comes just hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national address, where he lauded India’s air defence forces and said,
“Buri tarah pitne ke baad Pakistan sena ne DGMO ko sampark kiya,”
highlighting that Pakistan reached out for ceasefire only after facing heavy drone and missile losses.
With multiple intercepts and real-time military engagement continuing, border districts remain on high alert as the Indian armed forces maintain a firm defensive stance.
