The United States and India are moving closer to finalizing a new trade agreement, with President Donald Trump inviting India’s commerce and trade ministers to Washington next week for high-level discussions.
Sergio Gor, Director at the White House Presidential Personnel Office, said the talks will be held with Ambassador Greer and will include negotiations aimed at reaching a “hopeful trade deal.” He added that both sides are “not that far apart” and are now working on the “nitty-gritties of the deal.”
“We’re actively negotiating with India right now,” Gor said, stressing that the upcoming talks highlight the commitment from both countries to strengthen bilateral economic ties.
The meeting comes at a crucial time as trade tensions remain high following the United States’ imposition of steep tariffs on Indian exports. However, the renewed push for dialogue signals a potential breakthrough in narrowing differences and moving toward an agreement.
