The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Nawab Malik (who is a Minister for minority affairs in Maharashtra) over an alleged land deal involving Dawood Ibrahim.
His name came under the scanner when the intelligence was probing the ‘Hawala Cases’. Several Hawala transactions were intercepted by the ED and the profits came from illegal channels like drug trafficking, blackmail, Selling real estate in Bhindi Bazaar and Nagpada locations of Mumbai.
Apart from Nawab Malik, in this major money laundering case, the involved persons are Dawood Ibrahim, Iqbal Mirchi, Chhota Shakeel, Parkar and Javed Chikna. Dawood Ibrahim’s sister, Haseena Parkar has also been marked.
ED stated that in the year 2005 Nawab Malik purchased ₹ 300 crore property in a prime location of Mumbai’s Kurla just for ₹ 55 lakhs; brokered by Dawood’s sister Haseena and 2 of her partners.
Earlier this month, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a case involving Dawood and his partners for funding terror activities using ‘Hawala-connections’. Soon the ED got the whim of it and scrutinized Dawood and his partners.
The NIA said Salim Patel, Dawood’s executive had acquired the Kurla property through Power of Attorney in the year 1999, a part of the property was given to Nawab Malik. Come 2005, Nawab paid a trivial ₹ 55 lakhs to Haseena and re-acquired the whole property.
Now in all this, the ED is scanning the money being laundered to the underworld and had earlier this month executed several raids on the underworld mafia. Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar is behind the bars already. He got arrested last week.
The NIA first checked Nawab momentarily and straight away took him to his South-Mumbai office. After grilling him for 5-hours he got arrested.
Nawab Malik so far maintained an impressive portfolio; 5-time MLA, He is the national spokesperson of NCP, has absolute confidence of Sharad Pawar. He is also the Minister of Minority Affairs in Maharashtra.
