Bihar’s Rashtriya Janta Dal MLA, Phate Bahadur Singh (The RJD legislator from Dehri in Bihar’s Rohtas district) has raised question over Goddess Durga, after which Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed it’s “hurting Sanatan sentiments”.

Speaking to media, the RJD MLA said: “I would like to ask those who have written that Maa Durga fought the army of crores of Mahishasura and slaughtered him. What was Maa Durga doing when the British government made India a slave? Where were the weapons of ten arms? That time new weapons were innovated, so why didn’t Maa Durga slaughter the British government?” (As quoted by ANI)

Several other videos of RJD MLA Phate Bahadur Singh making controversial remarks on Goddess Durga is revolving around internet. In a video posted by Journalist Utkarsh Singh, the RJD MLA can be seen saying: “Why does Durga apply sindoor? Shankar made his daughter, Durga, his wife! Mahishasura has not been killed, he has been murdered. Which war did Durga fight by going to Mahishasura’s place at night?”

Reacting to RJD MLA’s remark, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and Leader Of Opposition Party, Bihar Legislative Assembly, Vijay Kumar Sinha said: “RJD people are hurting and insulting the faith of the children of Sanatan.”

BJP leader Dr Ajay Alok also lashed out at RJD MLA’s reamark and said: “Hey, Navratri happens at Lalu ji’s place, the urn sits – when will Lalu ji kick out such an MLA and leader from the party? Or like Chandrashekhar who spread dirt on Ramcharitmanas? These are the people who believe in Hinduism.”
