CID West Bengal on Thursday makes the third arrest in the death case of BJP councillor Manish Shukla. He has been identified as Subodh Yadav. Following the gunning down of BJP leader Manish Shukla in Bengal’s Titagarh on Sunday, two men have been arrested on Tuesday and sent to 14 days’ police custody and two municipal councillors from the ruling Trinamool Congress – have been named in the FIR.
The two arrested men are identified as Khurram Khan (alias Md Athasham Khan), 35, and Irshad Ali (alias Gulab), 32. Both are residents of Titagarh area. According to sources, the motive behind the killing may have been personal enmity, as Mr Shukla was allegedly linked to the murder of Khurram Khan’s father in 2010.
Two people are yet to be arrested because based on security footage of the murder the police believe they are looking for four men and two are already in custody.
The CCTV footage shows two men on a motorcycle driving up to a vehicle beside which Manish Shukla and some others are standing. The attacker opens fires and flees within seconds. Another attacker, wearing a white shirt, who was standing nearby then opens fire and backs away until a second motorcycle arrives to help him escape.
BJP Worker Manish Shukla was shot in the Titagarh Area on October 5.
