On the 24th anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first oath as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001, the state has launched ‘Vikas Saptah’ (Development Week) to commemorate his two and a half decades of governance and service. The week-long celebration, running from October 7 to 15, will highlight Gujarat’s transformation journey under Modi’s leadership and continued progress under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Sharing his thoughts on social media, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “On this day in 2001, I took oath as Gujarat’s Chief Minister for the first time. Thanks to the continuous blessings of my fellow Indians, I am entering my 25th year of serving as the head of a Government. My gratitude to the people of India.”

According to Gujarat health minister and spokesperson Rushikesh Patel, the celebration will focus on 13 key topics involving 10 state departments, each day spotlighting a unique theme. Activities are designed to include youth, women, and farmers, ensuring every section of society participates in and benefits from Gujarat’s development model.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the celebrations at the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, where ministers, officials, and citizens took the ‘Bharat Vikas Pratigya’, a pledge to contribute to nation-building. The pledge was simultaneously administered across collectorate offices, schools, colleges, and government institutions.
Citizens have also been invited to participate through the MyGov portal, while an exhibition of government schemes opened at Sabarmati Riverfront, featuring cultural programs, quiz and essay competitions, and lectures on development initiatives.
A special podcast with cricketers Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma will be released during the week, alongside a youth brainstorming session at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, where over 1,000 students will share ideas for Viksit Bharat@2047. Similar programs will take place across 50 locations in Gujarat, reflecting the state’s commitment to inclusive and participatory growth.
