On Friday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took over as the National President of his party Janata Dal (United), replacing senior party leader Rajiv Ranjan urf Lalan Singh. In a programme organised at New Delhi’s Constitution Club, JDU took this crucial step before the upcoming general elections next year, followed by the state assembly elections in Bihar.
Over this move by the JDU, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has congratulated Nitish Kumar for taking over as party chief in Delhi. The RJD leader said, “If he (Nitish Kumar) has become the president of his party (JD(U)) then it is the decision of their party. He has been the President of JD(U) earlier as well. He is a senior leader of his party, so it is a good thing if he has become the President of JD(U).” (As quoted by ANI)
After the programme, party workers chanted slogans outside the Constitution Club in favour of Nitish Kumar, projecting him as the Prime Minister face of the opposition alliance.
