Navjot Singh Sidhu reaches out to Congress ministers, ahead of his possible elevation

The formal announcement regarding the expected elevation of Navjot Singh Sidhu as Punjab Congress chief is yet awaited. 

On Saturday, cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu drove to Chandigarh from his Patiala residence to meet with a cross section of cabinet ministers and MLAs together with the ones who are considered to be loyalists of chief minister Amarinder Singh.

Meanwhile, AICC in- charge of Punjab affairs Harish Rawat came to meet with chief minister Amarinder Singh. The meeting follows at the time when reports suggest that Harish Rawat expressed his apprehension about Sidhu appointment as the state’s chief. Reportedly, he notified that Sidhu’s appointment would harm the party in the next assembly polls.

Following the meeting, Raveen Thukral who is the media adviser to the chief minister tweeted, “Had a fruitful meeting with Harish Rawat. Reiterated that any decision of INC president will be acceptable to all. Raised certain issues which he said he will take up with the INC president.”

Harish Rawat visit follows after the chief minister wrote a letter to party’s president Sonia Gandhi in a bid to stall Sidhu’s elevation.

Navjot Singh Sidhu have met with the present PPCC president Sunil Jakhar at his residence in Panchkula. He also met with cabinet ministers namely Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Balbir Sidhu. He reached out to Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and other MLAs. He further met Mandi Board chairman Lal Singh. Balbir Sidhu and Lal Singh is considered as Amarinder’s loyalists.
