
On Tuesday, President Ram Nath Kovind laid the foundation stone of Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Centre in Lucknow.
President Ram Nath Kovind laid the foundation stone for the centre at an event in Lok Bhawan. The Ambedkar Memorial would come up in Aishbagh.
The event was attended by the Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma. President Ram Nath Kovind who has been in Lucknow on a two day visit arrived from Kanpur on Monday and would leave for Delhi on Tuesday evening.
The previous week, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet had approved a proposal of the state cultural department for the construction of the Ambedkar Memorial Cultural Centre in Aishbagh.
The memorial would come up at 5493.52 sq metre nazul land in front of the Aishbagh Eidgah. It would also have a 25 foot statue of Dr. Ambedkar.
The cost of construction of the memorial would be Rs 45.04 crore, it would consist of an auditorium with a capacity of 750 people, a library, picture gallery, museum, research centre and a multi purpose convention centre, also including the facilities like a cafeteria and a dormitory. The construction would likely to be started soon for the cultural department.
