Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead on Saturday in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred inside Dhoomanganj Police Station in Prayagraj, where Atiq and Ashraf were being questioned by the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Sounds of indiscriminate fire were heard as Atiq and Ashraf collapsed on the ground. According to reports, two-three people opened fire on them.
The identity of the attackers is not yet known. The police are investigating the case, and a manhunt has been launched to arrest the culprits. The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
Atiq was known for his criminal background and was facing several criminal cases. He was also accused of running an illegal hospital from inside the jail, where he was serving a sentence in a murder case. His son, Asad, was killed in an encounter with the police on Thursday.
