Friday is the fifth day of the winter session of Parliament. Today, the Ethics Committee report can be presented in the Lok Sabha on the case of TMC MP Mahua Moitra. According to sources, after the presentation of the report, a proposal to abolish Mahua Moitra’s Parliament membership will also be brought on the basis of the committee’s recommendation. During this time, the opposition may demand division of votes on the report, hence BJP has issued a whip to its MPs asking them to remain in the House today.

Mahua is trapped in cash-for-query case

The committee headed by Vinod Kumar Sonkar had prepared its report in a meeting on November 9 recommending the expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha on the charge of ‘cash-for-query’. Six members of the committee voted in favour of the report. These included Congress MP Preneet Kaur, who was earlier suspended from the party

Four members of the panel belonging to opposition parties had submitted dissent notes. Opposition members had termed the report as a ‘fixed match’. The committee had reviewed the complaint filed by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey. Let us tell you that Mahua Moitra can be expelled only if the House votes in favour of the panel’s recommendation.

The report was earlier to be presented on December 4

Let us tell you that this report was earlier listed in the agenda of the Lower House on December 4 but it was not presented. Many opposition members have stressed that the recommendations should be discussed before taking a decision on Moitra. BSP MP Danish Ali had said on Thursday that if the report is presented, emphasis will be given on full discussion, as the draft was adopted in two and a half minutes. The committee headed by Vinod Kumar Sonkar had adopted its report in a meeting on November 9 recommending the expulsion of Moitra from the Lok Sabha on the ‘cash-for-query’ charge.
