On Tuesday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel made a series of attacks over the Bharatiya Janata Party over the action done by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the revealed Rice Mill Scam in the state. In a statement on Monday, the ED said on social media platform X, “ED has conducted search operations on 20/10/2023 and 21/10/2023 at the premises of ex-MD of MARKFED, Treasurer & office bearers of Chhattisgarh Rice Millers Association, District Marketing Officers, & few Rice Millers in Custom Rice Milling Special Incentive scam. During the search operations, various incriminating documents, digital devices and unaccounted cash of Rs. 1.06 Crore were found and seized.”

Over the allegations made by the central agency, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel has made a strong reamrk and has accused the central ruling party BJP of fighting elections with the help of central agencies like ED, CBI and IT Department. CM Baghel made a long social media post on X and gave clarification over the alleged scam in the state.

“ED has once again given an election issue to BJP by making fabricated allegations. This time, at the behest of Amit Shah, he is talking about the rice scam. Raman Singh has been Chief Minister for 15 years. But it is clear from his statement that he still has no idea about the work. The charges for custom milling have been increased from the year 2022-23 itself, that is, only one year’s payment has been made, so where does the account of four years of scams come from?,” said CM Baghel.

“ED has taken statements from 10-12 rice millers and has estimated that if the agency records the statements of 2,200 millers then it can talk about any figures. Do not release figures to defame the government. When Raman Singh was the head of the state, even 60-70 lakh tonnes of paddy purchased from farmers every year could not be milled. There was a loss of hundreds of crores every year due to drought, theft, interest, maintenance of collection centers and spoilage of paddy. They will not tell the public that after the introduction of the new system of custom milling, 97 lakh tonnes of paddy was lifted before the rainy season and the state has saved Rs 2000 crore,” CM Baghel further added.

“ED is releasing false figures so that BJP can get weapons to defame the Congress government of the state. But this is public, Doctor Saheb! They knows all this. They are seeing how BJP wants to fight elections with the help of agencies like ED, IT and CBI,” said CM Bhupesh Baghel attacking BJP.
