Chhattisgarh Election 2023: Read highlights from first phase of polling

According to the Election Commission, till 5 pm the highest voting took place in Khairagarh, Chhuikhadan and Gandai district, where 76.31% people voted.

Voting for the first phase of 20 out of total 90 assembly seats in Chhattisgarh ended today. In which, voting was held on 12 seats of Bastar division and eight seats of Durg division. According to the data released till 7.15 pm, 71.11% voting took place in the state. In the 20 seats where voting took place in the first phase, a total of 77.23% voting took place in 2018. According to the Election Commission, till 5 pm the highest voting took place in Khairagarh, Chhuikhadan and Gandai district, where 76.31% people voted. The least voting took place in Bijapur district. Only 40.98% voting took place here till 5 pm.

Only 40.98 percent voting took place here. More than 75 percent voting took place in North-Bastar-Kanker, Rajnandgaon, Mohla Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Kondagaon district. Also, more than 70 percent voting took place in Bastar, Jagdalpur & Kabirdham.

What happened in the Rajnandgaon? 

Former Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh is contesting from Rajnandgaon seat. 74.00 percent voting took place on this seat till 5 pm. In the 2018 assembly elections, 78.87 percent voting took place on this seat. That means, there was 4.87 percent less voting than last time.

Congress won 12 seats of Bastar division in 2018

The most important of the 20 seats is from Bastar division, from where 12 out of the total 90 seats come. A total of seven districts fall in the tribal dominated Bastar division. There are 12 assembly and one Lok Sabha seats of Chhattisgarh in the division of seven districts. Of the 12 assembly seats in Bastar division, 11 assembly seats are for Scheduled Tribe (ST) and one seat is general. Among these, the seats of Bastar, Kanker, Chitrakot, Dantewada, Bijapur, Konta, Keshkal, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Antagarh, Bhanupratappur are reserved for STs. Whereas, Jagdalpur assembly seat is normal. At present Congress holds 12 assembly seats.

Encounter between security forces and Naxalites

During the first phase of voting in Chhattisgarh, there have been encounters between security forces and Naxalites in many places of the state. There is news of several CRPF soldiers being injured in the encounter between security forces and Naxalites in Sukma. There is news of three Naxalites being killed in Bijapur. Encounters took place between CRPF and Naxalites in Tadmetla and Duled of Sukma during the first phase of voting. Naxalites had an encounter with Cobra 206 soldiers. Soldiers were deployed in the forests to provide security to the polling party in Meenpa.

Fate of many high profile candidates captured in EVM 

The fate of many high profile candidates was decided in this phase. The credibility of three ministers of the Bhupesh government and five ministers and one MP of the previous Raman government is at stake. The fate of a total of 233 candidates, including former Chief Minister Raman Singh, was sealed in EVMs. Whose decision will be taken on December 3 with the counting of votes.

Raman Singh and Bhupesh Baghel clashed on X

An X war broke out between Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and former Chief Minister Raman Singh amid the first phase of voting in the state. As soon as voting started, the leaders started claims and statements. In this sequence, the statement of former Chief Minister of the state Raman Singh came out, he said that

“There is a tremendous undercurrent in the state. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is winning at least 14 out of 20 seats in the first phase. The first phase will also be good, and the second phase will also be good and BJP will form the government in the state with full majority.”

On which Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel retorted with a quip and said that BJP will not be able to win even 15 seats this time and Raman Singh will also lose his election.

Apart from that, many leaders including state CM Bhupesh Baghel have appealed to the public to vote.
